Moo, Moo I’m Two! Cow Themed Birthday Party

After going all out last year for my daughters “One in a Melon” themed first birthday party, I wasn’t planning on doing anything big for her second. Until I found this theme!

For the last several months, Rose would show an immense amount of excitement whenever she saw a cow, and when she did, she loved yelling MOOOOO! at the top of her lungs. As I toyed with the idea of throwing her a small birthday party, I hit up my favorite search engine where I find 90% of my ideas (Pinterest), and came across adorable cow themed birthday party inspo. I was instantly hooked and the party was as good as planned.

How to decorate a Cow Themed Birthday Party

Cow themed birthday party set up.

Normally, I love putting my Cricut and creativity to good use and make as many of the decorations as I can. Now with two under two, I find that I don’t have as much time and energy as I once did. Can you say sleep deprivation? Instead, I purchased decorations from Amazon and my favorite craft stores. This helped save a lot of time and energy which allowed me to focus on baking and decorating the dessert instead.

Below is a list of the decorations that were used for this cow themed birthday party.

Balloon arch – The balloon arch in my set up is actually two different balloon arch kits I put together. The cow one, even though on the Amazon stock photo looks like it would make a full arch, definitely doesn’t. You would need at least three of those kits to make a full arch. The bottom portion of white balloons on either end came from a different kit. I placed some pink balloons from the cow kit between the white balloons to make it look more cohesive.

Banner & Cake Topper // Plush Cows // Crates (Couldn’t find the exact crate I used since I bought these years ago. These look like the same just a different size.) // Cake Stand (I got mine years ago and don’t remember where it’s from but this one is similar.) // Tiered Tray // Cupcake Stand // Cupcake Toppers // Chalkboard Signs (I bought mine years ago but these are very similar.) // Hay Bale

Happy Birthday Sign (This came from the balloon arch kit.) // Table Skirt // Tablecloth // Table Runner // Straws // Plates & Napkins

Setting Up a Cow Themed Birthday Party

Now, let’s talk about how you can set the moo-d for your little cowgirl’s party! If you’re going to put up a balloon arch, I can’t stress the amazingness of a balloon machine enough. This guy will save you hours from blowing them up manually! There are tons of YouTube videos out there demonstrating how to put the actual arch together. I haven’t created a how-to video, so for now I can just recommend watching a few tutorials on YouTube. My method is to tie two balloons together, take two sets of balloons tied together and warp them around each other. Continue this process until all of your balloons are in bunches of four. (I leave out the small ones to use as fillers once the arch is together.) To connect the bunches, I take long white balloons (not blown up), wrap one end around a bunch a few times, then wrap the other end around another bunch. To connect the arch to the wall, I’ve used these hooks in the past with success but my wall paint just wasn’t having it. After having no luck getting those hooks to stick, I ended up tying the top of the arch to the vent behind them. When nothing seems to be working, improvise!

This cow themed birthday party came together just as I envisioned. From the colors, to the farmhouse touches (including the perfect farmhouse media console years earlier), to the adorable “adopt a cow” party favors, this was everything I envisioned.

Cow Print Cake and Desserts

For the dessert table, I put together a cow print inspired cake, cupcakes, cake pops, rice crispy “hay bales”, Cow Tails and fruit gummies. at your little cowgirl’s birthday party, consider serving a cow print cake alongside an array of cow-inspired treats.

For the cake, I frosted three layers of vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. After I put a crumb coat on, I took a toothpick and outlined the spots. With a Wilton cake decorating tip #6, I filled the white designated area with individual dots. Then filled the spotted area with individual dots of black buttercream frosting. When my husband saw the cake, he said it looked like cow fur. That’s probably the best compliment he’s given one of my desserts.

The cupcakes are chocolate with buttercream frosting. After making the cupcakes, I put eight aside, crumbled them up, added some cream cheese and rolled them into cake pops. After dipping them in white almond bark and sprinkling with tiny pink balls, these were the perfect small touch to the dessert table.

Food Table

A man-n-cheese bar has quickly become my favorite go-to party dish. I didn’t save the recipe I went off of, but if you search on Pinterest, you’ll find plenty. Never worry about your mac-n-cheese going cold by serving it out of a crockpot! Make sure to surround it with toppings and sauces like chicken, bacon, tomatoes, avocado, Chick-fil-A sauce, Buffalo Wings sauce, BBQ sauce, etc. Dino-nuggies were also served but were still in the air fryer when I took this photo. And you can never go wrong with a fruit or veggie tray.

For drinks, you can’t pass up a milk bar at a cow party! If you want to take it a step further, have chocolate sauce and strawberry sauce options so children can make the milk to their liking. I also included water and iced tea options.

Moo, Moo I’m Two

I absolutely love how everything came together! This might be my favorite party I’ve put together to date. The kids all had a great time, ate way too much sugar and were zooming around in circles until they crashed.

Both of my daughters outfits came from Amazon. I was really impressed with the quality of both. Rose’s outfit came with a onesie, skirt and headband. The skirt was nicely full on it’s own and didn’t need an additional filler. Violet’s onesie was stretchy and just too cute for words with the arm tassels. I paired it with pink pants and a tutu to match her sister.
