With every child my mom had, she never found out the gender until the baby was born. I always enjoyed the surprise and couldn’t wait to find out if I was having a brother or sister. After three brothers in a row though, I was going to back my bags and hit the road if the next one was another boy! Thankfully I finally got a sister and didn’t have to figure out how long it would take to walk to Grandma and Grandpas!

Growing up like this, I always knew I wanted to keep the gender a surprise and not find out until I was holding that screaming bundle of joy in my arms at the hospital. It didn’t even dawn on me how not knowing the gender would affect the baby shower. Thankfully, Pinterest has an endless scroll of gender neutral baby shower themes and an overload of ideas for each of them. I landed on a Moon and Stars theme and couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out!

Moon & Stars themed Decorations

I loved how everything turned out! I’ll be honest, setting up a party 8 months pregnant was not easy! If you’re doing most of the set up for your shower, I highly suggest accepting help from friends and doing as much prep work ahead of time as you can. My tendency is to procrastinate on projects, even when I’m really excited to work on them. Thankfully I was smarter this time and started purchasing decorations, printing signs and DIYing two months in advance.

I made the food/dessert table the focal point of the party. The “cloud” balloon arch was the perfect accent to place above it and drew everyone’s attention to it as they walked in the room. Small lights were strung through the arch to give it a glow if you were up close. Unfortunately no one was able to see it fully lit up since the party ended long before it got dark. This is definitely something I’ll do again for future parties that run late.

In order to add dimension to the table, I placed the food, signs and decor pieces on and around these white crates. Since they’re on the pricier side, I popped into Hobby Lobby several times over two months until they were listed for 50% off. Score! The moon and star wooden decor pieces also came from Hobby Lobby.

The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star banner was made using my Cricut. If you don’t have a Cricut and love crafting, I highly recommend one! This thing has saved me hours and opens up a whole new world of crafting potential. I don’t speak for the brand or the company, I just seriously love this product.

On the game table, I ran a small string of lights across it to add a little twinkle. I used mini clear command hooks to hang the star garland that framed the welcome sign. Because you can never have enough lights, I also added some gold mercury glass votives and tea lights. The final touch was a wood beaded strand with a moon at the end and another one with a star at the end. I bought them both at Hobby Lobby but can’t find them on their website anymore.

Can you spot the spelling mistake in the photo below? Make sure you have someone who isn’t running on four hours of sleep double check everything before guests arrive!

Moon & Stars themed Food

Have you ever gone to a party and NOT immediately gravitated toward the food table? If you said no, you’re lying. Whether you’re hungry, bored, feeling awkward or want to strike up a conversation with a relative you have’t seen in ten years, the food table is the perfect place to go! With how many people there will be visiting this table, you don’t want to skimp on it’s presentation. Personally, I like to incorporate an array of different foods to try and please everyone. Play into your theme where you can. For example, I used croissants for the chicken salad sandwiches to resemble crescent moons. Below is the list of everything that was served at the baby shower.

  1. Crescent moon chicken salad sandwiches
  2. Pasta salad
  3. Fruit tray with hummus
  4. Veggie tray with yogurt
  5. Peeta chips
  6. Moon and star sugar cookies
  7. Chocolate dipped strawberries
  8. Chocolate cupcakes
  9. Cake

Mom-osa Bar

There’s no party without a little bubbly! Grab the champagne bucket, juice carafes, champagne flutes, beverages of choice and fruit for a great little station! When you go shopping, don’t forget to buy some of that sparking juice for yourself so you can join in!

Baby Shower Games

The games came with the bundle I purchased on Etsy from SarahsLittlePaperie. You’ll receive plenty of options to choose from. The ones we weren’t with were Don’t Say Baby (I hot glued confetti stars to mini clothes pins for the pins), How Big Is Mommy’s Belly, Wishes For Baby, and Guess How Many Clouds there are (cotton balls in a small jar).

Moon & Stars Baby Shower Printables

For invitations, games, signage and thank you’s, I highly recommend SarahsLittlePaperie on Etsy. I purchased her Moon and Stars baby shower theme bundle which you can find here. It was easy to customize and print the pieces and tied everything together from beginning to end.

Thank You Gifts/Prizes

Lush had the perfect thank you gifts! These sleepy shower bomb clouds smelled amazing and looked adorable in the moon and stars pouch I found on Amazon.

For those who won a game, they received a mini bottle of wine (or Starbucks gift card if they didn’t drink) and a small hand sanitizer bottle from Bath and Body Works called In The Stars. I can’t find this on their website anymore but they do still sell the body scrub and hand cream.
