Graveyard Cupcakes

Ingredients

Cupcakes

  • 1 box Betty Crockerâ„¢ Super Moistâ„¢ Favorites Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
  • 1 package cupcake liners

*Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 cups butter (room temperature)
  • 4 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tube green food coloring

Extras

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (melted)
  • 1 bag candy corn pumpkins
  • 1 package Oreos

Instructions

Cake

  1. Follow instructions on the box.

Frosting

  1. Blend the butter until it's fluffy.

  2. Mix in one cup of powdered sugar at a time. Add the next cup of powdered sugar once the current one is fully combined with the sugar.

  3. Add in heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract. Tip: To avoid dulling your white, buy clear vanilla extract.

  4. If you're going to make both kinds of cupcakes shown here, divide your icing in half and add several drops of green food coloring to one. Mix until incorporated.

Trees

  1. Melt the chocolate chips. Once the chocolate is no longer the temperature of lava, put some in a piping bag (or sandwich bag) and draw some spooky looking trees on wax paper. Place in the freezer to harden.

Assembly

  1. While the trees are in the freezer, frost the cupcakes.

  2. To make the tombstones, remove the frosting from the center of the oreo's and saw off two ends of each cookie with a knife. If you try to chop them the cookie will break apart.

  3. Add the tombstones and pumpkins to the cupcakes. Smash down some oreo's if you want to sprinkle any with "dirt". Add the trees once they're frozen. If you're planning on bringing these to a party then wait to put the trees in until you arrive so they don't get jostled and break along the way.
